Questions of Caricature Technique...

Hit these following links to read answers to specific questions that were sent to me as well as some general thoughts on how to approach caricature and drawing. They're not tutorials, as such, but musings on aspects of visual art that you may find interesting or helpful.

Technique Part 1 - 'how long on a sketch?' and 'what's the secret?'

Technique Part 2 - Some things are easy to draw while others are hard - why?

Technique Part 3 - Exaggeration? likeness? rendering eye-poppin' 3d realism!? Which is the most important?

Technique Part 4 - Drawing Hair

Tools Of The Trade Part 1 - Pencils: soft v hard

Welcome!

Welcome to the blog. Check in fairly regularly and you should at least be able to see a quick pencil sketch, if not a painted canvas, appear often enough to make it worth your while.
You'll also be able to keep up to date on any illustration news that is worth imparting.

For a more comprehensive look at past caricature work then please visit my site at http://www.russcook.co.uk/ where you will find various galleries of heroes, rogues, thesp's, muso's and scribers. An alternative site which will cover all other illustration is soon to be started and details of it will be posted here when it is finished. In the meantime, examples of general illustration will appear on this blog alongside the more 'centre staged' caricature work.

Thanks for checking in and enjoy the visuals!

Regarding submitted comments:
Any comments or feedback you wish to make would be very welcome, but please note that only comments relative to individual posts, my blog or artwork in general will be accepted. Anything deemed off topic such as political rants and social commentary will not be posted.

As someone who shrinks from censorship I would actively encourage you to say what you want, how you want.

However! I would prefer to think that this blog is a place where anyone can come without having their finer sensibilities assaulted and roughed-up.
With that in mind, can I suggest that in a general atmosphere of (moderate) decorum that if you feel you have to express your comments and advice, praise or disgust in a more earthy form of anglo-saxon then you may well find your entry bowdlerised.
If you wish to remain unexpurgated then please email direct where I assure you I will not blush and will endeavour to reply. In kind.

- Thanks!
